AFMC is a religious body for uniting all Muslim councils in Africa. With an initial membership of 28 Muslim councils, AFMC started with the drive and thrive of bringing together African Muslim organizations and institutions for their own development, that of their continent and humankind at large.
This was in response to the realization that Muslims need to organize themselves better to respond to the ever-growing need of their contribution to address challenges of the changing world, and calls for faith-based organizations to collaborate with regional and international bodies in addressing such issues at both continental and international level.
The General Assembly shall consist of up to 100 members that will include; Business Delegates, All members of the Governing Board, Representatives of different Supreme councils, Non-Business Delegates, All Trustee Members of the AFMC as non-business delegates, Muslim Women and Youth Delegates, All members of any Muslim Women Organization, All members of any Muslim African Youth Organization
After several consultative meetings held by African Muslim Leaders under the chairman ship of H.E the Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Ramdhan Mubajje under the auspices of African Council for Religious leaders in Nairobi, Cape Town and Republic of South Africa in 2014. The Muslim caucus of African Muslim leaders from 26 countries also held a meeting on the sidelines of the Faith works Africa; Partnership for Peace and Prosperity Conference in October 2016 in Abuja.
They unanimously resolved to form an African Forum for Muslim Councils a year later, two meetings were held in Kampala and Abu Dhabi where the interim structure was put in place to oversee the organisation of a Conference and the leadership of AFMC was put in place. From the time of its inception, AFMC has undertaken and participated in several projects and programmes at global, continental and regional levels. The following is a brief profile of what has been done and undertaken by AFMC.
Executive Secretary
The AFMC has an administrative body that is responsible for general management, administration and coordination of the council’s activities.
Chairman Board of Governors
The Governing Board which currently is composed of senior religious leaders who bear active leadership portfolios in their respective Supreme councils in their countries.
The Treasurer
Board of Trustees are members appointed by BOG from within member states to support AFMC
Head of Programs
The membership of the Executive Committee shall be a Committee of the Governing Board and shall consist of following persons from among the Governing Board.
AFMC hopes to mobilize communities and advocate for development within the member countries while responding to the challenges facing humanity.
AFMC envisions a continent where Muslim national bodies come together and cooperate with other faith-based groups and make positive contributions towards creating peaceful and prosperous communities in Africa and the world.
