Welcome To African Forum For Muslim Councils

African Forum for Muslim Councils (AFMC) is a continental platform that unites national Muslim councils across Africa to advance peace, development, and cooperation among Muslim communities and wider society. Founded in 2018, AFMC mobilizes Muslim leadership to influence development, strengthen institutions, and promote peaceful coexistence across Africa

AFMC works with national Muslim councils, governments, civil society organizations, and international partners to address social, economic, and humanitarian challenges affecting communities across the continent.

To mobilize and advocate for development within member countries while responding to challenges affecting humanity.

A continent where Muslim national bodies positively contribute to peaceful and prosperous communities in Africa and the world while promoting the authentic image of Islam as guided by the Holy Qur’an and the traditions of the Prophet (Peace be upon him)

Our Mandate

AFMC serves as an agent of social change and transformation by coordinating Muslim councils across Africa and strengthening their engagement with development partners and governments

Governance Structure

AFMC Currently has an interim Governing Board consisting of members from within the 40 member states.

Youth Conference with World Muslim Communities Council

April 26-27, 2019

AFMC organised a regional youth conference with participation from East, Central and Southern Africa to promote diversity. This was a 2-day event held in Uganda that created awareness for the youth on respectable religious practice and respect of diversity. It was in partnership with the World Muslim community’s Council and Uganda Muslim supreme Council

Improving access to safe and clean water across Uganda

January 05, 2020

AFMC signed with ISAR CORPRATION from Turkey to implement a water well project in various member countries starting with Uganda. This Project was meant to run for 3 years. No sooner had this project started in Uganda, then the Covid Pandemic set in. By the time Covd-19 set in, 25 bore holes had been completed in the areas of Kayunga, and Busoga Region.

Human Rights protection and Social cohesion as means of PVE

AFMC On participated a regional multi-stakeholder webinar on Human Rights protection and Social cohesion as means of PVE to empower religious leaders in areas of human rights and social cohesion. The webinar brought together religious institutions, CSOs including the national IRCs and other regional partners to identify and analyze the emerging trends of VE and the potential factors/root causes of both positive and negative elements linked and related to the advancement of human rights and the promotion of social cohesion in the region.
